Capitol Tours

Daily Guided Tours

Free guided tours are available on the hour from Monday through Friday between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. (i.e., first tour begins at 10:00 a.m.; last tour begins at 3:00 p.m.). Capitol tours are limited to 30 people on a first-come, first-served basis. For groups of 10 or more, please request a Group Tour reservation. All tours begin at the Visitor Information Desk (first floor, north side). Guests must check in at the desk prior to the tour.

Capitol tours take about an hour and include a trip to the dome observation area. The dome is a 99-step climb above the 3rd floor and is accessible by stairs only. A closed-captioned video tour (near the third floor elevators) is available for visitors who are unable or do not wish to make the climb. Self-guided tours of the dome are not permitted.

In June and July, dome-only tours are offered on the half hour from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (i.e., first tour begins at 9:30 a.m.; last tour begins at 3:30 p.m.). Dome-only tours last approximately 15 minutes.

Taking a self-guided tour? Consult our online Visitor Guide brochure.

School and Group Tours

School Tours
Request a School Group Tour

School field trips can be booked one calendar year in advance. Space is limited, so please get your request in as soon as possible. All tour requests are subject to availability.

The capitol can host a maximum of 120 people per day for field trips–students, chaperones, and teachers combined. Field trips begin at 10:30 a.m., and last 1.5 hours. Bus loading and unloading occurs at the northeast corner of the Capitol grounds at the corner of Colfax and Grant. Bus parking is on Broadway between 14th and Colfax.

Field trip requests for the 2026/2027 school year are open. School tours are scheduled October 1, 2026 through May 7, 2027.

School groups are welcome to self-guide through the Capitol.

Group Tours
Request a Group Tour

For groups of ten guests or more, or for groups with special needs, we recommend scheduling a group tour. These tours are subject to availability, and must occur between normal business hours. One of our Capitol Guides will take you through the building, and up to the dome observation area. Tours take approximately one hour.

Please note

Tour availability is not guaranteed and must be submitted at least two weeks prior to your earliest requested date. All scheduled tours are subject to change or cancellation in consideration of health and safety concerns.
