About the Exhibit As you enter the Rotunda, you will be greeted by displays representing all 100 members of the Colorado General Assembly, which is the state’s legislative body and is composed of 35 senators and 65 representatives, each elected to serve the district in which they live. This exhibit showcases every senator and representative through two perspectives: who they are today and who they were as children. By pairing present-day portraits with images from their youth, the exhibit highlights the personal journeys that led each individual to public service. As you move through the exhibit, you will also discover what makes each Colorado House and Senate district unique, as told through the experiences and viewpoints of the people elected to represent them. This exhibit is dedicated to the students of Colorado—the future leaders of our state. We hope it inspires them, and you, to vote, to engage in Colorado’s government, and perhaps one day to run for public office! Your engagement helps shape the future of our state. About the Colorado General Assembly Each Senate district has approximately 165,200 Colorado residents, while each House district has roughly 88,000 Coloradans. Senators serve four-year terms, and Representatives serve two-year terms. Both offices are subject to term limits of eight years per chamber. If a legislator’s term ends in the House, they can still run for any other elected office in the state! Legislators must live in the district they represent, which means they represent their friends, coworkers, neighbors, and the school children in their legislative districts.
