Capitol Tours

The Capitol is open Monday-Friday, 7:30-5:00. The Visitor Information Desk is open Monday-Friday, 9:00-4:00. Free guided tours are available Monday through Friday, on the hour between 9:00am-3:00pm (first tour begins at 9am, last tour begins at 3pm). 

In June and July, we offer Dome Only tours on the half hour from 9:30am to 3:30pm (first dome only tour begins at 9:30am, last dome only tour begins at 3:30pm). Dome Only tours last approximately 15 minutes. The dome is only accessible via a 99 step climb. Please see below for more information.

Capitol tours are limited to 30 people on a first come, first served basis. Guests must check-in at the Visitor Information Desk (north side, first floor) prior to the tour.  All tours begin at the Visitor Information Desk.

These tours are about an hour and include a trip to the dome observation area. The dome is a 99 step climb above the 3rd floor and is accessible by stairs only.  A closed-captioned video tour (near the third floor elevators) is available for visitors who are unable or do not wish to make the climb.

Self-guided tours of the dome are not permitted.

Capitol Group Tours

Attic/Dome Tour

Mr. Brown's Attic is an exhibition area located between the third floor and the dome. Devoted to Colorado's early history, capitol construction and legislative process, it also features an interactive space for children.

The dome walk is a 99-step climb to the observation area, where there is an incredible view a 360 degree view of downtown Denver and the Rocky Mountains.

Tours are available year round.

Historical Tour

This is a guided walk through the Capitol. Information regarding early Capitol construction, stained glass artwork, Women's Gold Tapestry, presidential portraits, Colorado’s lawmaking process, and much more is offered.

Tours are available year round.

Legislative Tour

This legislative orientation for students may include a visit to the House and Senate Galleries and a possible meeting with a lawmaker.

Tours are available January - May.

Student and adult group tours are very popular and space is limited. Tours will fill.  Reservations for group tours can be made one calendar year in advance. All group tours require an advance reservation.
