Information technology (IT) continues to receive considerable attention from lawmakers in Colorado due to the responsibility of state government to disseminate information to the public and to maintain the integrity and functionality of existing state IT systems. Additionally, lawmakers and various consumer and business interest advocates continue to explore state laws around emerging technologies, particularly concerning the use of artificial intelligence.

During the 2024 legislative session, the General Assembly considered several measures related to Information Technology (IT), including addressing Artificial Intelligence (AI); life-cycle IT, and IT systems improvement.

During the 2023 legislative session, the General Assembly considered several measures related to Information Technology (IT) including the Joint Technology Committee’s role; communication services; and accessibility.

During the 2022 legislative session, the Colorado General Assembly considered several measures related to information technology (IT), including: privacy protections, IT-related state services; and Joint Technology Committee-sponsored bills.

During the 2021 legislative session, the Colorado General Assembly considered several measures related to information technology (IT), including new requirements for the Governor’s Office of Information Technology (OIT), technical services, data privacy, and internet service.

During the 2020 legislative session, the General Assembly considered several measures related to telecommunications and information technology, including the Statewide Internet Portal Authority (SIPA), online platforms, telecommunication systems, other technologies, broadband, and information technology (IT) funding.

During the 2019 legislative session, the General Assembly considered a variety of issues related to telecommunications and information technology (IT), including blockchain technology, broadband, and new requirements for the Governor's Office of Information Technology (OIT).

During the 2017 legislative session, the General Assembly considered a variety of issues related to telecommunications and information technology (IT), including the provision of rural broadband internet and telecommunications service, state IT resources and funding, and data privacy and cybersecurity.
